Haus of Rirkrit: Columbia is Burning

526 W 114th Street, New York, NY
10 December 2021 - 14 December 2021

Haus of Rirkrit: Columbia is Burning
was an exhibition that came out of Making Without Objects, a graduate-level Advanced Sculpture course taught by Rirkrit Tiravanija. The purpose of this class was to explore the function of Relational Aesthetics in contemporary art practice and to develop ideas about the role of context in art, as the students developed their own site-specific works and research historical precedents for art designed to be exhibited in non-traditional venues. This course also prepared students for professional work preparing art for venues of that type.

Located in a residential brownstone on the periphery of Columbia University’s campus, Haus of Rirkrit was a group exhibition featuring multidisciplinary works by Making Without Objects faculty and students, Columbia MFA Visual Arts and Sound Art candidates, Columbia undergrads, and NYU undergrads.

The exhibition was organized by the Making Without Objects class and curated by Dylan Seh-Jin Kim.
